Vietnam Map and Geography of Vietnam

Vietnam is shaped like a long letter 'S' occupying the eastern edge of what was once known as Indochina. With an area of 330,000 square kilometres, it is similar in size to Italy or Japan.

It is bordered to the north by China and to the west by Laos and Cambodia. From north to south, the country is 1650km in length, though its width varies from 50km at its narrowest point in the middle to around 600km on the northern border. The long, narrow, coastal strip connects the two "rice bowls" of Vietnam - the lush valley of the Red River in the north and the delta of the massive Mekong in the south.
